Alicia of House of Griffin Kennels and Mystical Blues Cattery!

I am the breeder and founder of Mystical Blues Cattery as well as House of Griffin Kennels. I have grown up with dogs since I was a young child and always had a love for animals. My dream as a child to have my own farm with a bunch of animals to take care of. Well! That dream has come true! Still a work in progress, but they are being achieved.

I have had many different breeds of dogs from: doodles, mini schnauzers, Cane corso, Alapaha blue blood bulldogs, and German shepherds. I ended up buying my first home in 2018 and started to search for a dog breed I really drew too. At this time my hubby was missing having a cat around, as he grew up with one, so i began my search for a cat and I landed on a Nebelung. Beautiful dark silver, long silky, non shedding coat, and striking green eyes. I began to breed this type of cat and as there is barely any of them around. This started my breeding journey, as I loved the joy it brought to families faces and really loved trying to build on features for breed standard and building a legacy of gorgeous cats that best represent the breed. I started to do some research where this breed derived from and it brought me to Russian Blues. I was stunned at the beauty of Russian Blues. This is where my program took a turn into just breeding Russian Blues, as I really loved their features of having a shorter coat, elegant look, and more petite frame.

At the same time after purchasing our first house I started to look into German Shepherds, due to the West German show line shepherd I had in my previous life really stuck with me. I love their personality, versatility, and stable temperament. I needed something that was going to be good with kids, nothing too high energy like the working line, as well as good with cats. I ended up doing some digging and found that they also came in a gorgeous long coat. I was in love with their coats! So silky and thick! I ended up finding a breeder that had long coat black West German Showline shepherds and I just had to have one. Athena vom Sea Knight is my girl that started it all, and she is my girl for life! She is perfect in any way! Exactly what I was looking for, so smart, can be a couch if needed, and will get up and play balls when you want. They stay on property, excellent recall, just want to be loved, and with their family. They are extremely stable temperament, which was a crucial asset I needed because I wasn’t sure what life would bring me in the future, if I wanted kids or not.

On a side note, I did purchase a Central Asian Shepherd prior to Athena Vom Sea Knight. This boy is an amazing protector and big teddy Bear. He watches over the whole family when outside playing and against any predators that my chickens may encounter. I would hands down buy one of these boys again! Such a love bug to his family, but they are not good with new guest or strangers. Definitely not a breed for apartment life or for everyone’s life style, but I do love this breed!

HOW THE Adventure of Bulldogs BEGAN….

Shortly after establishing a few West German Showline Shepherds to start off my program, I unfortunately lost my Alapaha blue blood bulldog and I missed having a bulldog in my life. They are what you call, the life of the party kind of dog. They are full of amusement, and such dopey cuddly dogs. Something that you can’t just replace with any breed. Bulldogs are just so unique in their own way and they show that through their wild personality. I wanted something a little less spicey and less drive than an Alapaha, due to my family was growing in numbers with a little human. I wanted to make sure the bulldog breed I chose had a very stable temperament with children and more laidback and less drive, as I have cats in the house. I love English but I wanted something that was more versatile and healthier. I ended up looking into the Olde English Bulldogs. There is a lot of different styles of them, which was a nice feature. Some are more English style and compact and you can get some more agile and athletic. It quickly became a passion for me to purse this breed and try and build on features I believe make a great stable companion for families with children and small pets, while keeping the health and versatility of them alive.
